New iPhone Application: Air Sharing

This evening, I was browsing the free apps in the Apple iTunes App Store and I came across Air Sharing (Link to iTunes App Store), which happened to be number 1 on the top 25 list.  I downloaded it just to see what it’s all about.  Basically, the concept is simple.  The iPhone doesn’t come with the ability to be used as a storage device, as did most of the original iPod devices from Apple.  Air Sharing creates a WebDav file share on your iPhone that can be mounted onto a Windows, Linux, or Mac computer with ease.  Full instructions are included when you download the application.

Since I just downloaded it this evening, I haven’t had much time to play around with it.  But I DID get it configured very quickly and was able to mount the iPhone web folder to my Windows Vista workstation, though I had to download a Web Folders client update from Microsoft.  The link was provided in the Air Sharing instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907306.  A couple of clicks and I was off and running.

I can see where this application is going to be very handy for most users as it uses a non-proprietary WebDav instance, which should be compatible with most operating systems.  All of the reviews that I read were positive.  I too would give this application a very high rating for its ease of use and enhanced iPhone functionality.  Great job on this one!!!!

Oh yeah, the app was distributed to the App Store on Sept 8th and is currently FREE for the first 2 weeks.  So rush out and grab is as soon as you can before time runs out!
